Communism in the USSR was doomed from theonset. Communism was condemned due to lack of supportfrom other(a) nations, condemned due to corruption within itsleadership, condemned due to the moral weakness ofhumanity, making what is perfect on paper, ineffective inthe real world. The end of this system was precise violent. Itleft one of the two most powerful nations in the worldfearful of what was to come. Communism can either becalled a concept or system of society. In a society thatfollows the communist beliefs groups own the majorresources and means of production, rather than a certainindividual. In theory, Communism is to provide pair work,and benefits to all in a specific society. Communism isderived from many ancient resources, including PlatosRepublic and early Christian communities. In 1917, KarlMarx and Friedrich Engels in their Communist pronunciamentofinalized the philosophy of Communism. ("Communism,"Microsoft(R) Encarta(R) 98 Encyclopedia) In thebeginning, peop le in Russia thought of Communism as autopian ideal. (Funk & Wagnalls) The elimination of socialclasses, and guaranteed employment sounded slap-upto the people who lived in Russia. Communism did call fora role of socialist dictatorship to help control any form ofprotest. Through persuasive tactic this new governmentseized power and in 1917 Vladimir Ilich Lenin came topower. Under his control the Soviet Union underwentmany radical changes that led to the development of NEP(New Economic Policy). This policy called for mostprivate self-control of the means of production and business.Still the government controlled the majority of production.Throughout Lenins government there were manyachievements. It ended a massive civil war against the remnantsof the old Czarist military system and established institutionsin government. He later died in 1924, and was quicklysucceeded. In 1924 Joseph Stalin became head of theSoviet Communist Party. He soon became the mostpowerful man in Russia . He ran the Soviet Union with brutpower, removing all that opposed him and the Communistbeliefs. This judgment of conviction period was known as the Great Purge.Stalin systemically executed anyone who stood in his path.Stalin had millions of people arrested and killed. Thegovernment once again changed in its economic status. Allprivate ownership was ended. Industrializationcommenced, and the strength of the Soviets Militarysignificantly increased. The only downfall was agricultureproduction slowly diminished. This eventually led to foodshortages. During this measure period the Second World Warbroke out and drained most of what was left of the alreadyimpoverished state. However after the war, national congruitywas improved and the Soviet Union once again became asuper power of the world. (" Stalin and World War II,"
